Carly is a writer/director from San Francisco who works in narrative film (mostly). Her work explores social performance and self-mythology.

She’s currently developing a feature called TO SEE SILVER, inspired by her relationship with her younger, adopted brother—with support from Cine Qua Non Lab. Her short films include VOICE TOY, currently on the festival circuit, and SPINNING, which premiered at NewFilmmakers Los Angeles. She is the creator and director of Crushing, an acclaimed nonfiction monologue series executive produced by Rosario Dawson that sold out runs in New York and San Francisco.

Steyer received her BA in Film from Stanford University, where she was awarded the Chappell Lougee Scholarship for her screenwriting work. She previously worked as the development assistant to director Ruben Fleischer and producer David Bernad (The White Lotus, Uncharted, Jury Duty), and directed unconventional political ads aimed at Gen Z in collaboration with a national voter turnout organization.
